Hi. I am Emilio. I consider myself a poet and an artist.

I am an artist of practices. This means that I make art through practices. I was inspired by reading a book from Silvio Lang, and by the conceptual frame of artes vivas coined in Bogota, Colombia by the transmedia collective Mapa Teatro and the Maestría Interdisciplinar en Teatro y Artes Vivas.

I work within the relation between writing and site–specific practices, artistic and non-artistic. The last practice I did was walking on the shore of the Brays Bayou river, in Houston, foraging edible plants from the shore. I foraged plants like goldenrod, frogfruit and mesquite seeds. Here are some pictures from that practice:

I believe that in this present what we need as a species from planet earth is to heal. But I don't know exactly how to do this within myself, and within a community. How do you think we could heal as a species? Do you think that could help us understand better our place in the world, in relationship to other species?

I imagine this place within the notions of reciprocity, responsibility and consciousness. I like to imagine my life and the future from this notions because there are amazing people I have met that see life through those lenses. Most of them nowadays are considered indigenous, and have experienced many struggles because of that. They are also persons that have grown in western cultures, but have learned to be and to think differently through their interaction with communities that are not considered western.

I wanted to be a shaman. This is me wanting to be a shaman:

But something happened.

Something similar to dead. Now I know at least that I am not a shaman. But at least I am a poet. I know I am a poet because that is the dream of my heart. Hopefully that dream comes with an abundant life.

This is some of the things I have done lately, in the relation between practices, writing and art. I have walked in the Chihuahuan desert and made an auction in Marfa. I have done reforestation practices in Bogota, with my friend Diana Abaunza. She is amazing. Here a picture of her :))

There are many other things to see in this website. I have done playwriting, performances, sculptures, poetry. Through the different sections you will find my work, ways of collaborating with me, and workshops that I offer to private and public institutions, as well as individual consulting.
